Deburring tools for sliding-head applications

Deburring tools for sliding-head applicationsDeveloped primarily for users of high-precision CNC sliding-head turn-mill centres, the E-Z Burr Stubby series of quick-change solid-carbide blade-type deburring tools can also be used on other machines involving driven-tool applications on holes from 3.18 to 6mm in diameter and up to 32mm deep.

Available exclusively from Chessington-based Mollart Ltd (www.mollart.co.uk), the quick-change blade has a patented design that allows deburring of the front and rear corners of a hole in a single programmed pass of the tool.

The carbide blade, which has angled front and back cutting edges, is seated against a backstop with a tang to prevent any twist or rotation. The tool is locked in place by a grub-screw.

Key to the tool’s design is the full support of the blade in the holder; this ensures a highly rigid assembly, as only the cutting portion of the blade is exposed from the tool-holder.

The machine is programmed to use the blade’s leading cutting edge to deburr, chamfer or radius the front of a hole to depth/diameter. The cut is then disengaged, and the tool is passed through the component, ready to feed back into the material to finish the back of the hole with the rear cutting edge.

Mollart’s Bencere tooling operation has a video sequence demonstrating the E-Z Burr Micro tools (www.bencere.co.uk/products/ezburr/ezburrmicro.html).
