Chrysler Group to expand Michigan stamping plantThe Chrysler Group is to expand production capacity at its Warren Stamping Plant in Michigan. The US automotive company will invest $63 million in a new Servo tandem press line, which is forecast to increase the plant’s capacity by about 3.6 million parts per year.

This follows the decision in May by Warren City Council to approve the company’s tax abatement request. The increase in production at the plant is scheduled to begin in December 2015.

Chrysler vice-president (manufacturing) Mauro Pino said: “Production at the plant has nearly tripled in the past five years, and it has been pushing its stamping facilities to keep up.

This much-needed investment will help us continue to meet demand and maintain the quality that our stamping plants have worked so hard to achieve.”

Chrysler ‘state relations director’ Brian Glowiak said: “With the city’s support, we can implement ‘state of the art’ processes that will contribute to our long-term success and enhance our presence in the community.”

Established in 1949, the Warren Stamping Plant produces parts stamped from sheet metal — such as hoods, roofs, lift-gates and side apertures — for vehicles built at the company’s US and Canadian facilities.

It currently has 15 press lines that produce 80 million parts annually.
