The latest Sierra Denali truck from General Motors’ GMC division features the US automotive group’s new magnetic ride control.
Said to be the first electronically controlled damping system available on a full-size truck, this is claimed to offer better body motion control and a “more refined” ride, while maintaining payload and trailering capability.
GM executive chief engineer Jeff Luke said that, with magnetic ride control, the Sierra Denali delivers “a smoother, more-confident driving experience without sacrificing the capabilities that customers expect from a GMC truck.
The new magnetic ride control is equipped with sensors that assess the road and trigger damping changes in about five milliseconds in electronically controlled shock absorbers that replace conventional mechanical-valve ‘shocks’.
The responsiveness of the system makes this full-size truck feel and drive like a luxury vehicle — one that is more comfortable on long trips, especially when trailering.”
