Aberdeen City Council has announced that it is looking for a contractor to build a second hydrogen-processing facility to fuel its fleet
of 10 ‘green’ buses, which are scheduled to be operating later this year.
The station will be capable of refuelling two buses back-to-back within 3min. The second station has been made possible by a £750,000 grant from the EU’s Regional Development Fund.
An Aberdeen City Council spokesman said: “The recently approved EC Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Directive has put in place the need for member states to develop plans for increasing the number of low-carbon refuelling stations which they have.
“In order to be ahead of other regions and to make Aberdeen an attractive region for manufacturers, it is important that we have a refuelling network in place that is sufficient to meet the needs of users.
“The existing engineering skills in the area, developed primarily within the oil and gas sector, are transferable to this emerging sector. An invitation to tender has been published for the project.”
