Sheffield Forgemasters International Ltd (SFIL) has won a $6.2 million contract to supply 84 high-integrity castings to General Dynamics Electric Boat Corporation, which has responsibility for the design, construction and life-cycle support of US Navy submarines.

Only a few companies in the world are licensed to supply these high-integrity castings.

Chief executive Graham Honeyman said: “This is a landmark order for Sheffield Forgemasters and for the UK, and it cements our long-standing working partnership with General Dynamics Electric Boat Corporation.

“The specifics of the components are classified, but we can confirm that the order is valued at $6.2 million. Our foundry will be required to deliver a series of complex castings over a period of 10 months.”
