Load-Lok Manufacturing is upgrading its Merthyr facility with support from the Welsh Assembly government.
The company — employing 60 people — is a subsidiary of the Dutch-owned Load-Lok International Group. The Merthyr facility makes the group’s heavy-load restraint products, which are used in road-haulage vehicles, containers and the airline industry.
It also makes cargo slings and lashings for use in transport and general industry applications.
Welsh Economy Minister Edwina Hart announced funding of £210,000 towards the £624,000 expansion during a visit to the company earlier this month. The grant from the Wales Economic Growth Fund will help to create 10 new jobs and safeguard a further 12 jobs.
The £624,000 investment includes a new production facility to make a pillar — designed by the team at Merthyr — that provides improved support for curtain-sided vehicles. It also involves upgrading part of the site to incorporate automated production.
Business and finance director Julie Lewis said: “This is an important investment in Merthyr that will increase our production capacity, speed up the manufacturing process and bring new work to the site.
"It means we will be able to offer a more efficient and cost-effective service. Support from the Welsh Assembly government towards this expansion is vital, and we look forward to creating new jobs in the area.”
