The Humber region must do more to promote itself as an attractive location for manufacturers.
Peter Aarosin — the chairman of Hull and East Yorkshire Bondholders, which aims to raise the profile of the area — has said that the region needs to attract more manufacturing investment.
Mr Aarosin, who is now in his second year as chairman of the private-sector organisation, spent his first year promoting collaboration between businesses on both sides of the Humber and creating a Humber-wide organisation working with all four local authorities.
He said: “The future is here, and we’ve just got to grab it. We have been working hard to establish the region as ‘the energy estuary’, but we now need to promote ourselves further. I am convinced we can do so much better by promoting ourselves nationally and internationally.
“We have a great opportunity for more manufacturing to be based here. We have got an excellent opportunity to build more distribution centres, and we are ideally located for more manufacturing companies to come here.
“Logistics used to be an after-thought, but it is now becoming an important factor to consider. The closer manufacturers are to the ports, the more cost-effective the operation is.”
