Westinghouse Electric Co — a member of the Toshiba Corporation — has won a contract worth more than 40 million euros from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) for 12 advanced internal pumps for Finland’s Olkiluoto Units 1 and 2 boiling-water reactors.
This investment — a prerequisite for the long-term, safe and reliable operation of the nuclear reactors — will also allow for possible future expansion.
Under the terms of the contract, Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB will be responsible for managing the overall project, as well as installation and commissioning.
It will partner with KSB AG for the manufacturing and testing of the pumps and valves plus equipment testing; this will include a full-scale test performed by Toshiba Corporation in Japan.
The reactor internal pumps are part of the main circulation circuit that ensures the flow of water through the reactor core. Each reactor vessel has six internal pumps. Installation and testing will take place during scheduled mainenance periods in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
