Alstom has cancelled its contract to maintain Casablanca’s light rail network. The French multi-national cited “unresolved contractual differences” with Casa Tram, the consortium appointed by Casa Transport to operate the line.
The Casa Tram consortium, which comprises RATP Dev, the Moroccan Deposit & Management Fund and holding company Transinvest, was awarded a 90 million euro five-year contract in July 2012 to operate Line 1 from Ennassim to Ain Diab and Facultés.
Casa Tram subsequently outsourced maintenance to Alstom, which had already supplied rolling stock, electrification and signalling for the 30.7km line.
Alstom employs 40 people at the purpose-built tram depot at Sidi Moumen, a north-eastern suburb of the Moroccan capital.
