Cammell Laird has invested £1.5 million in its energy division. The Birkenhead shipyard used the money to renovate a large workshop to provide a testing and assembly facility for rigs and modules for its nuclear clients. This involved the installation of a new roof, floor, electrics and lighting.
The business has also recruited a nuclear-sector engineer from Sellafield Ltd; John Eldridge (pictured) has spent more than 40 years working on the design, construction, commissioning and operation of nuclear facilities.
Cammell Laird chief executive John Syvret said: “John brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team. His knowledge will help us forge closer links with the nuclear industry, enabling us to present innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
“We are ideally placed to service the needs of the nuclear industry over the next 30 years. We believe that the nuclear sector can ignite job and wealth creation at Cammell Laird for the benefit of the Wirral, Merseyside and the wider North West.”
