New facility for AIM AviationAIM Aviation is to move into a new £11 million manufacturing facility at Bournemouth Airport’s Aviation Business Park. The aerospace manufacturer said that the move to the 160,000ft2 unit will increase its capacity by 30% and result in new jobs across the region when construction is completed next year.

MAG Property — part of Manchester Airports Group, which owns Bournemouth Airport — has agreed a pre-let deal with AIM. The facility will also include offices, R&D space and a customer zone for AIM clients to view mock-up aircraft cabin interiors.

Paul Knight, managing director of Bournemouth Airport, said: “Not only does this announcement bring a welcome boost to the local jobs market, it also represents a sign of returning confidence in the airport itself and demonstrates the strength of the Aviation Business Park as a place to do business.

“We recognise the role of the airport and its business park as one of the most important employment locations in South East Dorset. Backed by the local authorities, we aim to strengthen the significant contribution that it already makes to the local economy and provide further opportunities for local businesses to expand.”

Colin Thornton, managing director of AIM Aviation’s cabin interiors division, said: “Having the whole team under one roof in one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in Europe will greatly enhance our ability to meet customers’ demand for reduced time-to-market and best value.”

The business park is currently home to more than 200 companies and supports an estimated 2,500 jobs.
