GTMA to launch CNC courses at AMRCThe GTMA, in partnership with the AMRC, is set to launch CNC courses that cover training requirements from an introductory level right through to advanced level. They will
ensure that candidates acquire and develop the CNC milling and turning skills needed to perform at the highest level.

The four-day introductory course establishes an understanding of the principles employed in CNC machining. It also covers safety considerations around automated CNC machine tools, while providing a foundation of basic G-code programming — plus the manual programming and simulation of several components of varying difficulty.
The four-day intermediate course provides a more in-depth view of CNC machining.

For turning, the course builds upon the introductory level to include complex internal machining, the tooling used and the various profiles associated with it. The principles of 2.5-D CNC milling techniques using CAD/CAM software are covered in the intermediate milling course, as are off-line programming, post-processing G-codes and DNC.

Again covering four days, the advanced-level course includes CAM programming, importing the NC program produced into the machine, manufacturing to specification and batch production on CNC turning centres. Advanced milling exploits the use of CAD/CAM for 3-D machining, three- and five-axis milling, complex-surface milling and programming a milled part.

Courses will be held at the AMRC’s facility in Sheffield and at the GTMA’s Manufacturing Resource Centre in Alcester (www.gtma.co.uk).
