Designed for the one-hit machining of complex components, the V700-5X from Lymington-based Ajax Machine Tools International Ltd (www.ajax-mach.co.uk) features a heavily ribbed high-grade cast-iron structure, linear roller guideways and direct-drive axis motors for traverse speeds up to 48m/min.

The standard 17kW 10,000rev/min spindle features a chiller to ensure accuracy under periods of extended operation; a 12,000rev/min unit with 20-bar through-spindle coolant is available as an option.

The work envelope is 700 x 400 x 650mm, the table is 800 x 400mm, and the 200mm-diameter rotary table can accommodate loads up to 80kg. This unit can rotate at up to 33rev/min; it has an indexing accuracy of ±15arc-sec, a tilt accuracy of ±30arc-sec, and it is repeatable within 4arc-sec. Control is via a Heidenhain TNC 620 CNC system.

A bi-directional column-mounted 24-tool magazine accommodates tools up to 90mm in diameter ¥ 300mm long; the tool-to-tool time is 1.6sec. Included in the standard specification is a 200-litre coolant system with oil skimmer and spiral swarf conveyor.

Options include a slat-type chip conveyor, a Heidenhain TT140 table probe for tool measurement and a TS 640 3D touch-trigger probe. Renishaw tool measurement and auto-measure systems can also be specified, as can Delcam programming software and a ‘starter’ tool pack.
