Birmingham Airport is to launch direct flights to New York’s JFK Airport next spring. It has secured a deal with American Airlines that will see the US company start daily flights on 8 May. The airline is expected to provide nearly 100,000 seats between Birmingham and JFK every year.
Birmingham Airport chief executive Paul Kehoe (pictured) said: “This new route will not only create more capacity to this vibrant US business destination, but it will also broaden connectivity and choice from the Midlands with American Airlines across North America and Canada.
"The West Midlands exported goods worth £4.5 billion to North America last year, and it has the largest trade surplus with North America of any UK region. With global brands such as JLR and JCB trading both locally and in the USA, this is an important link for Midlands business.”
