A deep-hole machining concept for the STS system, the CoroDrill 808 range is now available from Sandvik Coromant (
www.sandvik.coromant.com). These tools feature an optimised pad design for good hole finish, a specially designed edge preparation for increased chip-breaking and a ‘reinforced periphery insert corner’ for added security and reliability. Suitable for diameters from 15.60 to 65.00mm and the IT 9 tolerance specification, CoroDrill 808 drills can produce accurate holes regardless of the component material.
They are suitable for use in the energy sector, for applications that include machining holes in heat-exchanger plates. The cladded materials (such as low-carbon steel with Inconel) used for these types of application, are difficult to machine due to ‘tricky’ chip-breaking and maintaining an acceptable tool life; CoroDrill 808 has been designed to produce close-tolerance holes, even in the toughest conditions.
Furthermore, these drills are available as a stock standard item with a 24hr delivery; they also feature a fully traceable dot matrix that can be used for the storage and display of various types of information, including data on the diameter and run-out of the drill.
