Airbus is to reduce the output of its A330 wide-body aircraft from 10 per month to nine in the fourth quarter of 2015. The European aerospace giant says that this “adjustment” will act as a transition towards production of the replacement A330neo series.
Both aircraft are assembled at the Airbus complex in Toulouse, France. Airbus, which introduced the A330 in 1994, has been building 10 each month since 2013. It claims that this is a historically high production rate for aircraft of this size, “reflecting the strong success of the group’s market-leading wide-body family”.
Airbus vice-president Tom Williams said: “Our role as an aircraft manufacturer is to anticipate demand and adapt our output to ensure that we continue to maintain a smooth production flow for Airbus and for our supply chain.”
He made it clear that there will be no job losses as a result of the reduction in output of the A330. The A330neo is due to go into service in the fourth quarter of 2017.
