Earlier this year, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority awarded a $1.6 billion joint-venture contract to Skanska, Traylor Bros and JF Shea (STS).
The companies will design and extend the city’s Purple Line from the Wilshire/Western line terminus to Wilshire/La Cienega in Beverly Hills.
Furthermore, three new stations will be built as part of the project, which also includes the installation of signalling and telecommunication systems, traction power supply and distribution, and fare collection systems.
Eric Garcetti, the Mayor of Los Angeles and Metro board chairman, said: “When it comes to infrastructure, LA is on the move. We are investing $36 billion in our transportation infrastructure to ease congestion and create thousands of jobs.”
The extension will be completed in three phases, with the first section set to be completed in 2023, the second in 2026, and the third by 2035.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the new line was held on 7 November.
