Schaudt Mikrosa GmbH, which makes high-precision cylindrical, cam and universal grinding machines, recently held a two-day event to show its CrankGrind machine to about 120 German and international customers. Visitors were given a comprehensive tour of the company’s Leipzig factory, plus a series of lectures and grinding demonstrations.
The CrankGrind is a cross-slide grinding machine for simultaneous grinding of crankshaft main and pin bearings, with grinding-wheel speeds up to 200m/sec. Its maximum grinding length of 650mm can accommodate over 90% of the crankshafts used in the automotive industry.
Paul Kössl, vice-president of sales, described the development of this machine as “the next logical step; it is all about the highest quality and narrow tolerances”.
