UTC Aerospace Systems wins second Chinese orderUTC Aerospace Systems, which has its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, has won a second large contract within a matter of weeks. The company — a division of Connecticut’s United Technologies Corp — is to supply the wheels and carbon brakes for China Airlines’ fleet of 14 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The first of these aircraft will be delivered in 2016.

Jim Wharton, senior vice-president (landing systems) at UTC Aerospace Systems, said: “China Airlines’ selection of our A350 wheels and brakes demonstrates its confidence in our product innovation and adds to the portfolio of equipment that we already provide to this key customer.”

In October, the company won a $22 million contract to manufacture wheel and brake assemblies for the US Air Force’s 475 F-15 aircraft (with a ‘follow-on’ option worth another $30 million). Deliveries will begin in the summer of 2016. The equipment will be offered in two versions: one for use on the F-15C/D aircraft, the other for use on the heavier F-15E aircraft. The two designs have a high degree of parts ‘commonality’. The work for both contracts will be carried out at the company’s 30,000ft2 facility in Troy, Ohio.
