The winner of the fifth EEF Make it Britain photography competition will be announced at a ceremony in the House of Commons on 11 December. One of those short-listed in the amateur category is Nigel Jones (from Rainham in Kent) for his image of a welder at KMF in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The competition, which is sponsored by the Lombard asset-finance group, aims to raise the profile of British manufacturing by showcasing the industry’s creativity, diversity and heritage through inspiring photography.
Mr Jones said: “I was delighted to find out I’d been short-listed for this award, and knowing that my work will be displayed in the House of Commons is ‘the icing on the cake’. Manufacturing offers endless opportunities for creative, dramatic and eye-catching images, but the tricky part is really capturing its essence and therefore the imagination of the judges.”
Neil Lloyd, head of sales development at Lombard Business and Commercial, said: “This competition is about capturing the spirit of modern-day manufacturing; Nigel has to be congratulated for taking a stand-out photograph that does exactly that. His image successfully captures the rich innovation, excitement and importance of industry in Britain today, and I can’t wait to see it displayed in Parliament to maximum effect.”
