Northern Ireland Electricity has launched a new scholarship programme for electrical-engineering students at Queen’s University.
Worth up to £24,000, the scholarship is open to first- and second-year students; it includes a bursary and a book allowance, payment towards university fees upon graduation, job training in the summer, a mentor and student membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Randal Gilbert, programme manager at Northern Ireland Electricity, said: “There are excellent opportunities for well-paid, highly skilled and secure jobs within the power engineering sector, with an estimated 38,000 new power engineering jobs across the UK over the next 10 years and beyond.
However, there is a significant shortage of electrical-engineering graduates to fill these jobs. We offer the successful students invaluable experience working on real projects with a confirmed opportunity of employment in a growing and fast-moving sector.”
