Now available from CNC International, Ross-on-Wye, is the AL series of wire-cut EDM machines, featuring linear motors with closed-loop control that eradicates backlash to deliver a high level of repeatability with low friction.

There are four machines in the range, the smallest being the AL-400SA and the largest the AL-600SA. The AL-400SA can accommodate workpieces up to 790 x 610 x 215mm, while the AL-600SA accepts workpieces up to 990 x 620 x 295mm. Tank capacities range from 630 to 900 litres. Other features of the AL machines include a rapid servo response unit that can enhance the sensitivity of the discharge gap control to improve production times by 10% or more; this servo unit also prevents wire breakage. The machines also have a high-resolution signal processor that delivers smooth velocity control for high levels of contouring accuracy and a resolution of just 0.2µm.

Meanwhile, the Accutex Corner Pro system automatically controls the machine parameters to achieve the best possible cutting performance.

AL machines also incorporate Accutex’s Intelligent Discharge Unit for dealing with changing conditions such as material thickness and water flushing conditions, so as to maintain a consistently high-speed and high-quality cut with cutting times reduced by more than 35%. Also available is an ultra-high-resolution backlash-free rotary table (700,000 pulses per revolution).

Optional extras include auto wire threading, anti-collision for the Z axis, automatic voltage stabiliser, 45kg jumbo wire feeder and high-pressure water-jet-based wire threading.
