The “prospects for 2015 are looking good”, according to UCIMU (the Italian Machine Tools, Robots and Automation Manufacturers’ Association).
Its latest figures reveal that the Italian machine tool and automation sector registered strong growth in 2014, up 4.6% compared with the previous year. Its largest export market proved to be China, followed by the USA, Germany, Russia, France and Turkey.
The association’s president, Luigi Galdabini, said: “The recovery that started at the end of 2013 fully materialised in 2014. Domestic consumption has recovered, showing Italian companies’ new willingness to invest. Together with the positive forecasts for 2015, this is an excellent omen for those attending the EMO exhibition, which takes place 5-10 October.”
He called for the Italian government to introduce “an incentive programme to support the replacement of obsolete machinery”, so that manufacturers do not suffer a loss in competitiveness compared with their European rivals.
