HMAS Canberra, a Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ship supplied by BAE Systems, took ‘pride of place’ at last month’s Australia Day celebrations in Sydney Harbour.

The largest-ever ship built for the Royal Australian Navy, it was delivered to the Williamstown Shipyard in Victoria last September.

Bill Saltzer, ‘director for Maritime’ at BAE Systems Australia, said: “It was a tremendous occasion for the ship plus her officers and crew, having such a high-profile position in an event to celebrate our national day.

“It was also a proud moment for all of our highly capable ship-builders, who have been working hard over the past several years building and supporting the 27,000-tonne vessel.

“HMAS Canberra is one of the most complex war-ships ever built, requiring a highly skilled workforce of tradesmen, engineers, project managers and sustainment staff.”
