Lancaster-based First Subsea
www.firstsubsea.com has been awarded £130,000 of funding from the Government’s Grow: Offshore Wind programme to help pioneer new technology. The company will now be able to develop a new connector for floating wind turbines.
Managing director John Shaw said: “As the offshore wind industry strives to reduce turbine deployment costs, our connector is a major breakthrough in facilitating quicker and safer installations.
"The Grow: Offshore Wind award will allow us to develop our engineering and production teams and produce trial connectors to undertake full-scale testing in collaboration with the offshore wind industry. It places the UK at the forefront of this type of technology and gives us a great opportunity to grow the business.”
Grow: Offshore Wind adviser David Terry said: “One of our main roles is to unlock the potential of English manufacturers and ensure that they are in a position to make the most of the market’s undoubted potential.
“In First Subsea, we have given it the ability to develop new technology that has never been seen in the industry before. This is a fantastic competitive advantage to have, and I’m sure it will ‘spin out’ into even more opportunities for the UK supply chain.”
