CS Wind UK — a subsidiary of South Korea’s CS Wind Corporation — is to establish its European headquarters in Humberside after receiving a £1 million Government grant.
The new facility will be the UK’s first to be dedicated to offshore wind towers and will employ nearly 200 people, with more jobs created in the local supply chain.
Managing director David Ryu said: “We are delighted to be able to announce our intention to make this investment in the UK. This grant will enable us to accelerate our investment plans and convince the industry that we want to deliver a long-term cost-competitive tower to serve the European offshore-wind market.
“CS Wind has been investigating the UK market for 12 months, working closely with cross-Government teams, the offshore industry and regional networks to build a business case and develop a sustainable order book throughout Europe.”
Business Minister Matthew Hancock said: “The offshore wind sector is important, supporting thousands of jobs and contributing millions of pounds to the economy each year. We lead the world in offshore wind-power generation, and we are working hard with industry to build up our supply chain.”
