Birmingham-based A Gilligan (Coatings) Ltd (
www.agilligan.co.uk) has announced that it is to build a new factory on land adjacent to its current site, invest in new equipment and take on more staff.
The metals-finishing company was founded more than 100 years ago and was among the first to carry out chrome plating in the UK. It is owned and operated by Alan Gilligan, with his sons working alongside him. Its clients include Jaguar Land Rover, Ford, Siemens, Mitsui, British Gas and Black & Decker.
A Gilligan (Coatings) has received funding from Santander Corporate & Commercial to help with the purchase of land. The new factory unit should be completed by December and is likely to lead to a “significant number” of new jobs.
Mr Gilligan said: “The acquisition of this land feels like a natural next step for us; the additional space will allow us to deal with increasing demand. I feel that it will see us continue serving customers for another 100 years.”
Michael Durkin, relationship director at Santander, said: “A Gilligan (Coatings) Ltd is a very well-managed business, led by an experienced managing director who takes a very hands-on approach and has excellent commercial judgement.
“The history of this business is testament to the family’s ability to adapt and expand as needed. We are confident that the new purchase will provide plenty of room for growth and give the business scope to expand further.”
