Syndicat des Transports d’Ile-de-France (STIF)(
www.stif.info) has awarded a contract worth 150 million euros to a consortium involving Alstom (
www.alstom.com) and Bombardier (
uk.bombardier.com/en/home.html) for the delivery of 10 additional MI09 double-deck trains.
This new order is the result of STIF exercising an option to the contract signed in 2009, in which Alstom will have a 95 million euro share.
The new trains are expected to be delivered in 2017 and will be operated on the Ile-de-France regional express network (RER), which serves 1.2 million passengers every day.
Alstom Transport France senior vice-president Ana Giros said: “The MI09 is the only train able to absorb a flow of over a million passengers a day, enabling RATP to smooth the traffic on its network. Priority was given not only to the capacity, but also to traction performance and passenger comfort.”
The 110m MI09 trains will comprise five cars and will be able to carry up to 1,725 people. They will have a maximum speed of 120kph, and the high-performance electric braking system will minimise energy consumption.
