The Welsh Assembly government is helping the Grwp Llandrillo Menai (comprising three colleges) to develop the business case for a proposed £10 million Engineering Centre of Excellence at Llangefni on the Isle of Anglesey — to give people the skills needed to carry out engineering work at the Wylfa Newydd nuclear power station.
Earlier this month, Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology Julie James toured a number of sites in Anglesey and North Wales to discuss the skills requirements of employers in the area.
Ms James said: “My officials will work with Grwp Llandrillo Menai to develop a business case in support of this exciting project. If the project is approved, the Welsh Assembly will provide up to 50% of the funding.
“A new engineering centre of excellence will be able to train hundreds of people to meet the skill needs of Wylfa and energy-sector employers.”
