SmartCAMcnc (
www.SmartCAMcnc.com) has released SmartCAM v2015, which includes new strategies for knowledge-based machining (KBM) and high-speed milling (HSM), as well as improvements to the user interface and the core application.
The KBM improvements allow for the capture of user knowledge and machine shop expertise, and for frequently used tool-path process parameters to be stored and recalled later.
Meanwhile, component materials can be defined directly within the SmartCAM application, and settings for speeds and feeds can be stored and updated directly, without needing a separate utility.
Furthermore, the new Machine Definition facility allows all files associated with a particular machine to be simply recalled by selecting the machine name.
Douglas Oliver, SmartCAMcnc’s senior product manager, says: “SmartCAM v2015 introduces a new KBM database that will serve as the backbone for all of SmartCAM’s manufacturing data needs. With this latest version, users will be able to store their best practices, along with commonly used tool-path processes and parameters — and recall them for future use.
Additionally, the enhanced Material Definition function makes it easier for the user to take advantage of the Material Library capabilities, while the new Machine Interface simplifies job set-up.”
HSM improvements include new roughing and finishing tool-path smoothing capabilities that remove sharp corners from the tool-path, thereby reducing shock to both the tool and the machine.
New closed-profile continuous morphing and ramping strategies can also be used in combination with the new smoothing capabilities.
Furthermore, the rest-mill region calculation has been enhanced to consider material left behind anywhere within a region, including additional material left behind as a result of smoothing.
Improvements to SmartCAM’s user interface include new capabilities for list picking, group tool-bar and tool-bar scrolling.
