Edgecam and VISI CAD/CAM software systems are being used in a series of precision-machining and tooling training courses being offered by the GTMA (
www.gtma.co.uk) in partnership with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).
The four-day CNC courses, which will run to the end of July, range from introductory level through to intermediate and advanced levels for both milling and turning.
GTMA chief executive Julia Moore says it is important for delegates to have access to what she describes as “one of the world’s most advanced training programmes”. Run by AMRC trainers, the courses are designed for the precision-machining and tool-making industries. VISI was selected by the AMRC for the milling courses and Edgecam for the turning courses.
Introductory courses establish an understanding of the first principles of CNC milling and turning, while providing a foundation of basic G-code programming. The intermediate course for each manufacturing technology provides more depth, including an understanding of off-line programming, post-processing G-codes and DNC transfer to the machine tools.
The advanced courses include 3-D machining, three- and five-axis programming and complex surface milling. The venues for the courses are the GTMA’s Manufacturing Resource Centre in Alcester and the AMRC in Sheffield.
