The science and engineering technologies company Renishaw, together with the Young Engineers organisation, is once again running a competition that will give six people a week-long insight into engineering-based organisations.
The Renishaw Engineering Experience, which is open to Year 12 students (aged 16-17) in the UK, will take place 6-10 July, with entries closing on 31 March.
In 2014, the six students who won the competition (pictured) were given behind-the-scenes tours of eight major engineering organisations, including BAE Systems, Airbus and Jaguar Land Rover, culminating with a tour and a measurement challenge at Renishaw’s New Mills headquarters in Gloucestershire.
They were accompanied throughout the week by Renishaw graduates, who were able to answer any questions that the students had about their prospective career paths.
Rod Edwards, chief executive of Young Engineers, which encourages students to take up a career in engineering, said: “We are delighted to again partner with Renishaw on this exciting initiative.
“Last year’s winners had a fantastic time, experiencing everything from aerospace to automotive and different types of engineering.
They saw nano-technology and massive civil-engineering projects; their week was fun and very inspiring for them.”
Peter Bowler, Renishaw’s group HR manager, said: “As a nation, we simply have to attract high-quality people into engineering, by persuading not just young people of the rewarding careers on offer, but also their teachers, families and other influencers.”
Selection and interviews will take place in April. An entry form can be downloaded from the Web site (
