Rolls-Royce sign deal with helicopter firmRolls-Royce (www.rolls-royce.com) and Composite Helicopters International (www.compositehelicopters.com) — an emerging New Zealand helicopter manufacturer — have signed an MOU that will see the RR300 turbo-shaft engine used in the new KC630 helicopter, which has been manufactured using Composite Helicopters’ patented EvoStrength technology.

The two companies will also work towards fitting Rolls-Royce M250 engine variants into future Composite Helicopter aircraft.

Jason Propes, Rolls-Royce senior vice-president (helicopters), said: “We are excited to be working with Composite Helicopters as it continues to develop the revolutionary KC630 helicopter.

"The Rolls-Royce RR300 is an ideal choice, with the right mix of power, reliability and economical operation. We look forward to continued discussions with Composite Helicopters and the progression of the KC630 through the Type Certification process.”

Designed as a replacement for piston engines in light helicopters and general-aviation aircraft, the Rolls-Royce RR300 engine is optimised for performance in the 240-300shp power range. It also has a certified multi-fuel capability and proven turbine engine responsiveness, smoothness and worry-free reliability. Furthermore, all RR300 operators are supported by a global network of Rolls-Royce authorised service providers.

The RR300 engine is a further development of Rolls-Royce’s M250 engine range, which has topped 235 million flight hours in more than 31,000 engines. M250 engines have powered more than 100 aircraft types; about 15,000 are in service around the world in civilian and military use.
