The Swiss company Stadler Rail (
www.stadlerrail.com/en) has signed an agreement with ABB (
www.abb.co.uk/railway) to modernise the X2000 high-speed train fleet for SJ, the state-owned company that operates Sweden’s passenger train services.
Under this agreement, 36 trains in the X2000 fleet will be fitted with new electrical equipment from ABB, new cabs and new passenger information systems.
Each upgraded train will have a power car, four carriages, a buffet car and a control carriage. Stadler Rail will be responsible for dismantling the existing trains and installing the new equipment. Its executive vice-president, Jürg Gygax, said: “The order represents a very significant milestone for our service business.”
