Possible pay-out for former MG Rover workers

Possible pay-out for former MG Rover workersThe BBC recently reported that administrators from Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) dealing with the collapse of MG Rover a decade ago are trying to recover £56 million in over-paid VAT.

If they succeed, the money will be distributed among MG Rover’s creditors, including former workers at the Longbridge plant. The unions say that the money should go to these workers, but former MG Rover owner BMW is also claiming it, according to documents seen by the BBC’s Midlands Today programme.

Original PWC administrator Rob Hunt said his company had made a claim for VAT “that we believe is due back to the company”. In a statement, BMW said it was “for the courts to decide if we are the right party to reclaim the VAT in question, and we will abide by their ultimate decision”.
