Windsor-based Morgan Advanced Materials has been awarded a contract by Flensburger Fahrzeugbau GmbH (FFG) to provide a complete armour solution for the German Army’s Wiesel 1 armoured weapons carrier.

Morgan’s Composites and Defence Systems business will initially deliver its Camac armour and ‘survival package’ for three variants of the Wiesel 1. All the armour will be manufactured at Morgan’s Coventry site.

This project is the first time the two businesses have worked together, so it marks an important breakthrough into the German market for Morgan.

The Wiesel 1 was originally developed to meet the German Army’s requirement for a light armoured tracked vehicle to accompany airborne troops. Its lightweight armour provides a high level of ballistic protection, without impeding its manoeuvrability (www.morganadvancedmaterials.com).
