‘Advanced machining technology’ daysThe Sheffield-based tooling company Ceratizit WNT Ltd (www.wnt.com) will be joining forces with Open Mind, DMG Mori, Training 2000 and the University of Central Lancashire to deliver a series of ‘advanced machining technology’ days aimed at the aerospace sector in the North West of England.

Taking place at Training 2000’s Advanced Manufacturing and Automation Centre (AMAC) in Blackburn, this series of events on 26 and 27 February will focus on the benefits that high-performance circular-segment milling can bring to the machining of aerospace components.

Those attending these days will see how the combination of WNT’s 3D Finish (tapered conical barrel tools) solid-carbide milling tools and Open Mind’s HyperMill MAXX Machining CAD/CAM software can deliver significant cycle time savings (up to 90%), as well as improvements in surface quality.

Each 2hr morning and afternoon session will consist of brief presentations from WNT, Open Mind, DMG Mori and Training 2000, followed by machining demonstrations on AMAC’s DMU 75 MonoBlock five-axis machining centre.

The test pieces replicate typical challenges faced by the aerospace sector — namely the type of deep pockets found on aero-structures, and free-form profiles typical of turbine blades.

Places are limited for each of the four free-to-attend sessions. Those interested in attending can register by visiting the Web site (www.training2000.co.uk/events) and completing the on-line booking form.

Tony Pennington, managing director of Ceratizit WNT Ltd, said: “Training 2000’s AMAC facility in the heart of the North West’s aerospace cluster is an ideal venue for these aerospace milling productivity days.

“The response to our previous events has been excellent, with many of those attending recognising the immediate impact that this milling strategy can have on their machining performance.”

Be seen in all the right places!
