Putting productivity to the fore

Putting productivity to the fore Worcester-based Yamazaki Mazak UK Ltd is set to showcase 13 productivity-enhancing solutions from its portfolio of machine tools and laser profiling centres at MACH(Hall 20 Stands 760 and 790).

The company will also showcase its suite of Industry 4.0 solutions, which were first unveiled at EMO last year.

For instance, its iSmart Factory works in partnership with its Smooth CNC technology to improve OEE and facilitate data-driven manufacturing via connection of the factory and office networks (www.mazakeu.co.uk).

In terms of machines on display, the UK-built VTC-800/30SR is a vertical travelling-column machining centre capable of full five-axis contouring, making it suited to both aerospace applications and general sub-contract manufacturing.

This machine has been designed specifically for extremely long workpieces; it can also be converted into two separate work areas that enable pendulum loading and batch manufacturing.

A 35kW 18,000rev/min milling spindle is featured, the five-axis simultaneous machining provided by a swivelling B-axis spindle head and an NC rotary table.

Alongside will be another aerospace-specific model, the HCR-5000S — a five-axis horizontal machining centre developed for high-speed aluminium cutting.

Offering 700mm-diameter/500kg workpiece capacity, this machine offers fast acceleration and a high jerk rate — and there is the option of an 80kW 30,000rev/min milling spindle.

The final machine suited to aerospace applications will be the Integrex i-800V/8, which combines five-axis milling and turning operations with pallet-changing capabilities.

Equipped with a tilting 37kW 10,000rev/min main spindle, the i-800V/8 also benefits from a 45kW turning table powered by a direct-drive motor.

For the oil and gas industry, the Integrex i-400S machining centre offers capacity that Mazak says is bigger than any other machining centre in its category; it accommodates workpieces up to 1,519mm long and has a maximum swing diameter of 658mm.

Moving to the automotive sector, Mazak’s stand will host two automated systems.

The Multiplex W-300Y + GL-200 is a twin-spindle two-turret machine equipped with a gantry loader; the latter features a new rack-and-pinion drive system that offers rapid rates in the A and B axes of 75 and 160m/min respectively, for a potential reduction in load/unload time of 25%.

Another highlight for automotive visitors will be the new UK-manufactured Quick Turn 250MY and TA-12 — a ‘plug and play’ turning centre and robotic machine-tending solution.

Suitable for applications that require ‘lights out’ operation, both the machine tool and the Fanuc M-10iA robot are controlled from the Mazak SmoothG CNC.

For UK machine users standardising on Siemens control, Mazak will be displaying another UK-made machine from its VTC series — the VTC-760C — which is now being fitted with a Siemens 828D control.

Finally, MACH will also host the Optiplex 3015 DDL 4kW solid-state laser-profiling centre, which Mazak says can cut thin material 20% faster than fibre lasers, and process thick materials while achieving a high level of surface quality.
