Aberdeenshire-based SengS (
www.sengs.org.uk), an engineering services company, has completed its first ‘space mission’ as part of a strategy to diversify into new industry sectors.
The company — part of integrated manufacturing specialist Pryme Group — has developed its first hyperbaric test programme on behalf of a Tier One aerospace-sector client.
The value of the initial order was around £40,000, with three more tests to be carried out later this year. The company designed and manufactured a 2 x 6m hyperbaric chamber, specifically built to accommodate the test component, following an investment of around £120,000.
The comprehensive test programme involved: hyperbaric proof testing and ultimate pressure testing; installation and monitoring of strain gauges in hyperbaric state; high-accuracy hyperbaric linear variable differential transformer sensors to monitor displacement; multi-pressure sensors; electrical penetrators; and a live camera feed to the client.
Pryme Group commercial director Murray Kerr founded SengS in 2012, and it was acquired in November 2016.
He said: “This project not only strengthens the reputation of SengS as a market leader in testing capabilities but also highlights our ability to design and deliver advanced projects to aerospace and other high-tech industries.
"For the work of our team to have been recognised by a Tier One business is an extremely positive milestone, and we are confident of securing further aerospace-sector contracts in the coming months.”
