A 16-year-old Motocross competitor from Coventry is looking to get off to a flying start in a tournament in Scotland this weekend — with a little help from her employer.
Abbie Pittaway is set to take part in the first round of the 2018 UK Girls Motocross Nationals on 28-29 April at Duns Motocross Track.
After taking just under a year out from racing to recover from an accident, she finished in third place in a race last September on an 85cc bike.
An apprentice at local firm Sarginsons, she has now stepped up a class and will ride her new KTM SX125 bike at Duns. The company, which specialises in aluminium diecasting, is sponsoring Abbie’s sporting efforts.
She said: “It’s great to have the support of Sarginsons and the whole team here. Everyone takes a keen interest in what I do, and I’m proud to have the company name on my kit.”
If she performs well, Abbie will travel to Brookethorpe for the final round of the UK Girls Motocross Nationals later this year.
Anthony Evans, managing director of Sarginsons (
www.sarginsons.com), said: “Our apprentices are extremely important to us, and we are delighted to able to support Abbie — both in the working environment and in a personal sense.
“We have been working hard to encourage more women to join the manufacturing sector, and Abbie is a great example of that.”
