Blackburn-based MGS Technical Plastics (www.mgsplastics.co.uk), a plastic injection moulding specialist, has boosted its 3-D measuring capabilities with a new non-contact scanning arm.

The seven-axis Faro ScanArm allows delicate and complex objects to be inspected and reverse-engineered with an unparalleled level of detail; it follows a Faro Edge ScanArm HD purchased in December 2015.

The new ScanArm features a highly accurate blue-light probe, which is 50% more precise than a standard red laser and uses a shorter wavelength to scan in higher resolution.

Quality manager Mark Boardman said: “The Faro ScanArm is at the forefront of 3-D measuring technology, and the contactless element allows us to work with even the most delicate parts.

“It greatly improves our inspection and measurement capability for both components and tooling, and it has already made a big difference to the turnround time of projects.
