Border manufacturer’s jobs boost A County Monaghan-based manufacturer of fork-lifts trucks has announced plans to create 200 new jobs.

They will be located at Combilift’s new global headquarters and manufacturing facility in Annahagh, close to the border with Northern Ireland, which currently supplies about 10% of the company’s workforce.

The 40-hectare site houses a 46,500m2 factory, a dedicated R&D and testing centre, and administrative and visitor facilities.

Combilift (www.combilift.com) exports 98% of its output around the world, and 25% goes to the UK market.

Founded by a farmer — Martin McVicar — in 1998, the company has grown from a small operation with a handful of employees to become one of the biggest names in the materials-handling sector, with about 550 employees at the moment.

Mr McVicar said: “The combination of this ’state of the art’ production plant and an extended skilled workforce will allow us to double production in the next five years.”
