Following the announcement that XYZ Machine Tools (
www.xyzmachinetools.com) has entered the 3-D printing sector as an official reseller of the HP Jet Fusion printer, XYZ has strengthened its sales team with the appointment of Jim Ashby, who will be co-ordinating sales of the system across the South of England.
Mr Ashby has extensive experience in metal cutting, having served his apprenticeship at Rolls-Royce; most recently, he has spent eight years working in the 3-D printing sector with various companies.
He said: “3-D printing — or additive manufacturing — has been around for thousands of years; from ancient civilisations making coil pots to building walls, it’s all additive manufacturing.
“However, we are now entering a period of what I see as quiet revolution; and with the new HP technology, we can finally start to take 3-D printing out of the prototype arena and into manufacturing as a genuine production tool — one that can make real parts in commercially usable materials quickly and affordably.”
Nigel Atherton, XYZ’s managing director, said: “Appointing Mr Ashby to this role will enhance our offering to customers in the 3-D market.
“Moreover, his vast experience of the technology will also support John Aspinall, who will cover sales in the North, and Mark Higson, who will provide applications support for our HP Jet Fusion customers.”
Furthermore, XYZ will be holding free-of-charge 3-D printing seminars at its Burlescombe headquarters on 22 and 23 May. Lasting 2hr, they will focus on the HP Multi Jet Fusion machine.
The morning seminar starts at 10:30 and is repeated at 13:30, with coffee and lunch provided.
