Ballymena-based Wrightbus International has sold the five StreetDeck double-decker buses that entered trial service in Monterrey city, Mexico in October last year.

They have been operating in a busy Bus Rapid Transit corridor in downtown Monterrey and are equipped with Wrightbus Micro-Hybrid technology, USB ports and WiFi.

The power pack is a Euro 6 Daimler engine, coupled with the latest Wrightbus Micro-Hybrid driveline — a combination that has been proven to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions. This will have a significant impact on
the air quality in Monterrey.

A spokesperson for the Department of Sustainable Development for the State of Nuevo Leon, said: “We have been impressed with the Wrightbus product range, and we are excited to see the first Euro 6 double-deckers in operation in our city; this is an important milestone for Mexico.

"The positive feedback we have received from both passengers and bus operators regarding the performance of the StreetDeck is very encouraging, and the commitment Wrightbus has already demonstrated to support its product locally has given us confidence about the future.”

Confirming the order, John McLeister, managing director of Wrightbus International, said: “We are absolutely delighted to secure this strategically important order from Monterrey.
