Lightweight Containers, a Dutch-based maker of kegs for the drinks industry, has opened its first manufacturing plant in the UK. Located in Seaham, County Durham, the 62,000ft
2 plant is expected to create about 35 jobs within two years.
Chief technical officer Ruud Bais said: “We’ve been searching for a suitable site for several months, and we were particularly impressed by the commitment and desire of Business Durham to attract us to the area.
"They showed us that there was a skilled pool of labour and good transport links. We look forward to a long-lasting relationship with them, as our business develops.”
Carl Marshall, a member of Durham County Council’s economic regeneration cabinet, said: “It is great to see another company choosing County Durham as a place to expand; this reinforces our growing reputation as a desirable location for business.”
Lightweight Containers currently operates production plants in the Netherlands, Germany and the USA (
