Shanghai-based Jiao Tung University (SJTU) has formed a partnership with the University of Huddersfield (
www.hud.ac.uk) to build a China-UK collaborative smart metrology centre in China.
Senior delegates from SJTU, including vice-president Xi LiFeng, recently paid a fact-finding visit to the EPSRC Future Metrology Hub (located in the University of Huddersfield’s Centre for Precision Technologies) and met its director Dame Xiangqian (Jane) Jiang (pictured), who has a global reputation in metrology.
During his visit, Professor Xi signed a memorandum of understanding with University of Huddersfield vice-chancellor Bob Cryan.
This prepares the ground for the two institutions to co-operate in the field of metrology, with research and exchange programmes for students and teachers.
Professor Xi expressed his university’s keen interest in building a collaborative centre in Shanghai with the EPSRC Future Metrology Hub, to serve manufacturers in China and the UK.
Simon McKenna, the Future Metrology Hub’s director of operations, said the visit was a great success and there was plenty of scope for further collaboration between the two universities.
