Turnover passes £5 million mark at Baylis One of the West Midlands’ leading manufacturers of metal pressings and welded assemblies is celebrating after boosting its annual growth by 25% with a clutch of new orders.

Baylis Automotive, which employs 60 people at its 65,000ft2 facility in Smethwick, has won a number of contracts to supply seating and HVAC components for the agricultural sector, taking its turnover to £5 million (www.baylisautomotive.co.uk).

Managing director Raj Desai said: “We supply over 172,000 pressings every week, and these range from small HVAC nozzles to large heavy-duty side members for coolant systems — all manufactured to the highest possible standard.

This year will see us smash £5 million in turnover, and with the increase in work comes an increase in costs through new machinery and more energy. We do not have the time to monitor our energy usage or look at how we could be more cost-effective, so we brought in external specialists.”

Baylis turned to Control Energy Costs (CEC) to help it manage its energy usage more efficiently, and the move is already paying dividends.

The company has saved more than £25,000 by renegotiating its current supply contract and securing Climate Change Levy (CCL) tax relief for the first time.

Mr Desai said: “CEC technical analyst Rebecca Capon quickly got to the bottom of things.

“She spent a lot of time negotiating a new provider for our electricity needs and explained to us that we could be eligible for financial relief through the CCL — we didn’t even know it existed.”

CEC (www.cec.uk.com) has more than 900 clients across the UK. Its analysts provide an initial no-obligation audit, then work with the customer to identify existing issues and opportunities to reduce bills.
