The size and scale of Network Rail (www.networkrail.co.uk) was revealed at the National Manufacturing and Supply Chain Conference, which took place at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry at the end of last month.

Network Rail currently employs more than 1,600 people at 94 sites across the UK, ensuring that more than 4.6 million journeys by passengers are made each day on the 20,000-mile rail network.

These statistics were revealed by Rob Morton, Network Rail’s supply chain operations chief, when he addressed delegates at the conference.

He said: “Arguably, Network Rail’s supply chain is the most complex in the UK. With more than 45 principal locations and 94 manned sites, we ensure that the millions of passengers who travel on our network on a daily basis reach their destination, along with thousands of tonnes of commercial freight items.”
