Being promoted with the strapline “You don’t have to be big to be powerful” is the Primos range of machines from Worcester-based Yamazaki Mazak UK Ltd (
www.mazakeu.co.uk).
These include the QT-Primos series of compact high-performance turning centres and the VC-Primos 400 SG vertical machining centre.
Aimed at entry-level users, all Primos machines are characterised by compact footprints that are about 20% smaller than equivalent machines in their class.
The QT-Primos 50 SG CNC turning centre, which is designed for mass production applications, features a rigid integral spindle motor and Intelligent Thermal Shield for optimised accuracy and high-speed cutting (the main spindle has a maximum speed of 5,000rev/min).
It is also equipped with a lightweight access door with large window, a large-capacity oil pan, swarf disposal and a 5in chuck.
Also in this series is the QT-Primos 150 SG, which features a servo-motor-driven drum turret and a main spindle capable of 4,000rev/min.
Meanwhile, the VC-Primos 400 SG is a compact high-speed vertical machining centre with a 30-taper 12,000rev/min spindle, 60m/min rapid-traverse rates, fast tool-change times, maintenance-free slides and a swarf conveyor that discharges at the rear of the machine.
The VC-Primos 400 SG can be fully integrated with machines from the QT-Primos series to form a production line that undertakes both turning and milling.
All machines in the Primos range are built to Mazak global manufacturing standards, which means that — despite the entry-level price — there is no compromise on build quality.
