Aston Martin looks to source parts from IndiaThe sports car manufacturer Aston Martin is looking to source more from India (the recently unveiled Vantage already incorporates some Indian components), according to an article in Autocar.

Under the leadership of Andy Palmer, who was appointed CEO some three-and-a-half years ago, Aston Martin is looking for suppliers that can help the company improve cost-efficiencies, and thereby support the next phase of its growth plan.

In an exclusive interview with Autocar Professional (a sister publication of Autocar), Mr Palmer said it will only be new models that will have any Indian content; and having previously worked at Nissan, he knows the Indian automotive industry fairly well, since he played an instrumental role in the Japanese OEM’s joint venture with Hinduja Group-owned Ashok Leyland.

As a result, Aston Martin is working with the Hinduja Group’s engineering services arm — Hinduja Tech — as a way to identify suppliers of competitively priced components that meet Aston Martin’s quality requirements.

Last year, Aston Martin reported a profit-before-tax figure of £87 million on sales of 5,117 cars — 58% more than in 2016.

The company plans to launch seven models in seven years, each with a life of seven years.
